Estimate your project →What Home Repairs Cost in Portland — and How We Price Them
The thing people actually worry about when they call a repair contractor isn’t the price of the job. It’s the open-ended hourly clock, and the fear that a two-hour job becomes a day.
We quote the job, not the hour. A minor repair — a door adjusted, a latch replaced, drywall patched, a fixture mounted — typically runs $150 to $300. Anything larger gets a written number based on materials and labor before we touch it. If we find something underneath that changes the job, we stop and tell you what it costs before continuing, not after.
Have a list rather than one item? Send the whole list. A half day with everything lined up costs less than four separate visits, and most Portland homeowners have been putting off five things, not one.
- Minor repair: $250–$400
- Larger jobs: Quoted on materials and labor, in writing
- Estimates: Free, and the price is fixed before we start
Before the Rain: Portland Winter Prep
Portland gets about 150 days of rain a year and most of the damage we repair in February was preventable in October.
The list that matters: clear the gutters and check that downspouts discharge away from the foundation, reseal exterior trim and any gap around windows and doors, check the caulking where the siding meets window frames, make sure crawlspace vents and the sump are clear, and look at the roof edge and flashing before the first real storm rather than after it.
Most of it is a half day. The alternative is a rotted sill, a wet crawlspace or water in the basement — each of which costs several thousand to put right, and none of which announce themselves until the damage is done.
If a storm has already done something — a branch through the decking, a section of shingles gone, water coming in — see roof repair and storm damage. We tarp first and repair second.

When It's Bigger Than a Repair
Sometimes what looks like a repair isn’t one, and we’d rather tell you that at the estimate than halfway through.
Soft trim or siding that’s cupping usually means water has been getting behind the wall for a while — that’s siding and rot repair, not a patch. A ceiling stain is a roof or flashing problem until proven otherwise. A damp basement needs the water solved before anything is finished down there. And a bathroom where the floor flexes near the tub usually has a subfloor issue, which is a bathroom remodel rather than a caulk job.
Same company either way, same CCB number, one point of contact. You’re not handed off to someone else and you don’t start over with a new estimate.
